Brow Lift

Do the signs of aging make you feel uncomfortable? Are you looking for safe ways to look and feel younger? One common sign of aging we all experience are creases in the forehead and high on the bridge of the nose. Commonly referred to as “frown lines,” an endoscopic brow lift helps minimize these creases and repositions a low and sagging brow.

More specifically, a brow lift performed at UF Health Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics Center removes excess skin in the brow area of the face and smoothes the remaining skin to give you a more youthful, refreshed look.

Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?

Women and men who want to give themselves a younger look and slow the appearance of aging and who are in good health are good candidates for a brow lift. Since it is a minimally invasive procedure, there are not as many risks as other plastic surgery procedures, but you should have realistic expectations.

You will need to be completely candid about your health and any other questions the brow lift surgeon may have during your initial consultation.

Regardless, always remember the first rule of undergoing any cosmetic surgery procedure – do it because you want to, not to satisfy someone else’s wishes.

How do I prepare for my brow lift?

If you decide a brow lift is something you desire, our plastic surgeons will sit down with you and discuss the procedure and any risks associated with it. We will also require you to sign a consent form attesting that you understand the procedure and any risks before going any further.

Some of the most profound risks that could occur include: unfavorable scarring, bleeding, infection, anesthesia risks, blood clots, correctable hair loss at the incisions and eye irritation and dryness.

Once your brow lift is scheduled, surgeons may suggest you take certain medications and/or adjust ones you’re currently on. To minimize the risk of bleeding, avoid Aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements prior to and immediately after your brow lift…and quit smoking well before your surgery.

Since a brow lift is an outpatient procedure, we recommend you have a friend or family member drive you home and spend the first night with you to help monitor your recovery.

Schedule a surgery consultation at the UF Health Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics Center and get to know your brow lift surgeons.

What will my recovery be like?

Once brow lift surgeons complete the procedure, they will tape your forehead and perhaps loosely wrap your head to prevent swelling and bruising. They may also temporarily place a thin tube to drain away any excess blood and fluids.

UF surgeons will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for the surgical site(s) following surgery, any medications you should take, specific things to look for around the surgical site(s) and your general health along with an appointment for a follow-up exam.

Normal activity can be resumed after about a week of rest but you should avoid strenuous activity and direct sun exposure for a while. You may experience bruising and swelling in the affected area along with itching, numbness and hair loss around the incisions for a few weeks following the procedure.  All of these symptoms should subside within a few weeks.

Most vital – follow your UF Health surgeon’s instructions to minimize post-operative complications.
